Popis Literary texts have become an integral part of foreign language teaching, as evidenced by numerous studies (e.g. Koppensteiner & Schwarz, 2012; Steinbrügger, 2016; Schiedermair, 2017; Lindert, 2020; Hille & Schiedermair, 2021). The current discourse no longer focuses on whether literary texts are relevant for foreign language education, but rather on how they can be effectively integrated into teaching. In the university context, a traditional approach to working with lyrical texts is commonly used, which involves a formal analysis of aspects such as rhyme schemes, syllables, and rhetorical devices, followed by interpretation. Another valuable approach is "re-creating" a poem, as defined by Reiner Kunze, the most prominent translator of poems by the Czech author Jan Skácel, where the aim is to translate the poem in a way that it feels like an original in the target language. These methodological approaches contribute to the development of literary competence and offer new perspectives on the use of poetry in foreign language teaching. This article introduces two emerging concepts, symbolic competence and poeticity/literalization, and discusses their significance for the didactic use of lyrical texts in foreign language education.
