Introduction to Research Writing in English: Focus on Abstracts and Titles
In this workshop, scientific writing in English is understood as writing with a keen awareness of the reader. You will learn about the cultural conventions of scientific writing in English and develop an understanding of how cross-cultural differences in writing affect the format
and style of scientific texts. In this context, we will look at the genre of the abstract of a research article and through hands-on activities examine its rhetorical structure. We will also look at the characteristics of effective titles and discuss writing strategies that lead to more positive writing experiences.
The workshop will take place in an online format via MS Teams. You must register for the workshop at least two days in advance. Registered users will receive a link to participate the day before.
