Basic research
Basic research projects (e.g., GAČR, SYRI) focus on current issues in education in a changing social and cultural context. These projects explore topics such as social and educational inclusion, quality of education, and teaching innovation. The research results provide evidence-based responses to social inequalities and crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the integration of Ukrainian students into Czech schools, and the challenges associated with digitization. Faculty researchers are actively involved in the SYRI research infrastructure, where, under the leadership of Doc. Šeďová, they are conducting studies on the impact of the pandemic and the adaptation of Ukrainian students, the results of which are valuable for decision-makers.
Applied research and development
Applied research and development projects (e.g., Technology Agency of the Czech Republic – TAČR) focus on the creation of applied research outputs such as educational programs, textbooks, methodological guides, teaching materials, teaching experiments, and digital teaching applications. These projects follow an iterative process of design, testing, revision, and implementation. Many of these initiatives function as "contract research" for public administration in the field of education and social affairs, where grant schemes such as TAČR are used to develop solutions to policy problems.
Practice-focused research
The aim of this type of research is to improve or innovate specific practices through action research, experimentation, and reflection, which has a direct impact on the educational process. This type of research is essential for the training of teachers and other helping professionals. This approach is used across various faculty projects.
Research in the field of arts
The PED portfolio also includes artistic research, which combines artistic practice with academic research. This approach not only generates new knowledge, but also contributes to artistic creation and reflection. In addition to studying the theory and practice of art education, PED has long specialized in art mediation, collaborating with galleries and participating in the operation of the visual arts. Artistic research is conducted primarily in fields such as art, gallery, and music education.
