Citation
Description The book aims at future special needs and mainstream teachers, teaching assistants, and those already working in inclusive schools. It contains updated knowledge on special needs and inclusive education and follows changes in legislation. The author primarily focuses on mental, behavioural or neurodevelopmental disorders, especially disorders of intellectual development and autism spectrum disorders, but also specifies other groups of pupils educated within inclusive schools. Apart from the theoretical concepts covering the role of the special needs teacher, an appropriate inclusive education setting, and pupils' performance in schools, the author focuses on current research and presents numerous qualitative surveys and the results applicable in educational practice. The author proposes appropriate support and emphasizes the importance of complex, both static and dynamic assessment and subsequent interventions. She gives examples from educational practice and numerous references to Czech and foreign literary sources for further self-study. Some chapters contain diagrams that make the topics easier to understand via visualization. There are also summary points to make the reader understand the issue better and think about how to ensure that every single student is happy in school and life and reaches the best possible competencies essential for life. The author works at the Department of Special Needs and Inclusive Education, Faculty of Education, Masaryk University. She has published five books on autism spectrum disorders and intellectual development disorders and is a co-author of many other titles. She established the Autism Centre to help people on the spectrum and their families.
