Description In Czech Republic, similarly to other European countries, English has been established as the first foreign language in the area of language training in schools. German is usually taught as the second foreign language. The paper deals with selected traits of didactics of tertiary language learning, especially in the constellation of “German after English”. Thereby, not only aspects of cognitive theory of language acquisition, but also areas of emotion are brought into focus. Following a theoretical introduction, two case studies from the area of tertiary language research are presented addressing cognition and emotion as topics of research.
