Description This paper presents the issue of reproduction of gender stereotypes in lessons of English as a foreign language at the lowersecondary level. The study is conducted on the sample of the IVŠV Videostudy of English Language basic research. In terms of research outcomes, it aims to determine whether there is gender insensitive approach towards boys or girls detectable in the areas of teaching as specified and observed in our research. Three systems of categories were developed in order to categorise the data, each of which focuses on one area of reproduction of gender stereotypes: the extent of attention paid to girls or boys by the teacher, calling out boys and girls (including the types and order of questions asked), as well as teachers’ disciplinary instructions. The findings of quantitative analyses show that in all three aspects of teaching English as a foreign language, boys were given significantly preferential treatment. In this paper, the outcomes of the quantitative analyses are presented in detail, furthermore, recommendations are outlined in terms of tackling gender inequality in education.
