Professor Vlastimil Švec is a graduate of the Faculty of Education at MU, where he studied teaching for primary schools. Since 1994, he has worked at our faculty as an associate professor and subsequently as a professor of pedagogy. In two terms (1994-2000 and 2011-2015), he headed the Department of Pedagogy and since 2016 he has significantly contributed to the establishment of the Centre for Educational Research, today's Institute of School Education Research.
His professional work focuses on general didactics, university pedagogy and pedeutology (systematic theory of the teaching profession). He has made significant contributions to research on pedagogical skills, self-reflection of future teachers and tacit knowledge. In recent years, he has also worked on helping professions and interdisciplinary aspects of pedagogy.
As a teacher and supervisor, he has supervised dozens of bachelor's, diploma and dissertation theses and has educated a number of successful PhD students. With his expertise and human approach, he contributed significantly to the formation of a new generation of researchers. At the same time, he serves on a number of scientific and disciplinary boards, editorial boards of major journals and has represented the Czech Republic in international professional organizations.
By appointing him Professor Emeritus, the Faculty expresses its sincere respect and gratitude for Professor Švec's long and invaluable work for the academic community, research and teaching practice.
