St. Nicolas event for students
Let's celebrate the traditional Czech winter holiday together!
During the summer holidays, the Faculty of Education completely replaced all elements of the orientation system. This change also includes a modification in the numbering of classrooms.
During July and August, all faculty buildings underwent a relatively significant change. All elements of the previous orientation system were dismantled and replaced with a new orientation system. The main reason for the change was the previous unsystematic numbering of classrooms and offices. This was based on historical foundations, and classrooms were numbered according to the order in which they were created. It was therefore impossible to deduce the order of the classroom on the floor, the order within the building, or even in which building the classroom was located from the room number alone.
The new system is based on the designation of faculty buildings using five letters. A is for the building at Poříčí 9, B is for the building at Poříčí 7, C is for the building on Ypsilantiho Street, D is for the building at Poříčí 31, and E is for the building at Poříčí 31a.
The first digit in the classroom designation is always the building designation where the classroom is located. The second digit in the classroom number indicates the floor, and the third (or fourth) digit indicates the classroom's location within the floor. Classrooms with even numbers have doors facing the street, while classrooms with odd numbers have doors facing the courtyard.
Classroom D24 is located in building D (i.e., Poříčí 31), on the second floor, with a floor number of 4, and has windows facing the street.
Classrooms in the basement have a minus sign before the building letter. For example, the drama classroom is now designated as -B12.
The numbering of classrooms within each floor is also mirrored. For example, classroom A51 is located directly above classroom A41.
The newly established classroom numbering system is timeless and flexible enough to accommodate possible structural changes in the future. The new orientation system is also in line with Masaryk University's Unified Visual System, thus seamlessly connecting with the university and faculty's visual presentation.
The orientation system is unified and consistent both visually and content-wise, based on a decision by the Masaryk University.
The reason for the change is systemic, i.e. all university buildings undergoing revitalization are being unified across the MU (for instance the whole Bohunice campus and SIMU are already marked in this way).
Another reason is practical and aesthetic, which is significantly affected by the shape of individual buildings, in the case of Faculty of Education the layout of the five disparate objects often fundamentally limits the size and shape of orientation boards and doed not allow for meaningful 'rotation'.
This means that the floor plans do not 'rotate' according to the given location but are oriented like regular maps. A red dot - where you are on the floor plan and an arrow pointing to your location should serve as an aid for correct orientation.
