Description Despite of long lasting research efforts, reflexivity remains a challenge for linguistic theory. To name just a few problematic cases, apparently accusative marked reflexives in decausative structures violate Burzio’s (1986) generalization, as syntactic active elements they violate the lexical integrity principle (e.g. DiSciullo/Williams 1987) and reflexives considered as passive morphemes (Panevová 2008) go against Baker’s (1985) Mirror Principle. The talk focuses on two recent studies on reflexivity for romance and Czech (Alboiu(ová)/Barrie/Frigeni(ová) 2004; Hudousková 2009) and compares these approaches to the way reflexives are treated within the framework of Functional Generative Description (e.g. Panevová 2008).
