Description This paper deals with a quantitative type of research focused on the process of evaluation of history and German language textbooks used in Czech lower secondary schools and grammar schools. The first research area is based on exploring text and visual components in selected textbooks. In the second research area the data analysis includes a modified method of the semantic analysis of texts in history textbooks. The main aim of the research is to support the application of exact evaluation approaches in the phase of production of the expository textbook component. The conducted research can be also conceived as a way how to measure the social, communicative and intercultural competence of textbook users in the context of affective aims of the curriculum.
