Description This chapter summarises and generalises findings from the previous part. Based on observational videostudies, the chapter analyses the main principles of creating and structuring a learning environment in instruction with regard to the relationship between the content and the aims of instruction. The teacher – reflective practitioner is expected to be able to (1) suggest alterations for improvement of instruction, (2) reason about their quality using valid evidence and (3) use the acquired knowledge to improve the quality of instruction. To support the teachers in dealing with these three tasks, the deep structure of instruction is explained and procedures that teachers use in their instruction are illustrated with examples from the observational videostudies.
