Description The aim of this paper is to determine what language means used Czech translators of the Guy de Maupassant‘s short stories to express the functional equivalence of the dialect. In the oldest translations, the translators used more the standard language, which the original text was substantially depleted. In the contemporary translations we find the elements of colloquial Czech.
