Description In contemporary scholarly literature on pedagogy, psychology, or language teaching methodology, the opinion can be encountered that it is necessary to view emotions as a parameter that has fundamental influence on the process of learning and teaching. This thought gave rise to the Ph.D. thesis at hand which is entitled The Function of Emotions for Creative Writing in Foreign Language Teaching and will be presented in this article. As the title suggests, the matter requires an interdisciplinary approach, which has not only been reflected in the concept of the theoretical part of the thesis that is divided into three subparts (psychological, pedagogical, and LT methodological bases), but also in the arrangement of the research design. A quantitative approach has been chosen combining several research methods which have been partly adapted from related disciplines (psychology, sociology). The research which was conducted by means of an online creative writing project at the Faculty of Education of the Masaryk University, has followed two essential threads, being the influence of emotions upon the quality of the output of creative writing (a narrative text), and the influence of emotions upon the quality of the process of creative writing.
