| Description | The origin of the adverbs of place on the basis of pronouns is possible to presuppose in the Indo-European protolanguage. In Latin, as well as in Slavonic languages, these adverbs are correlative, they complement one another. They spatially specify the circumstances of actions to questions where and where to. In French texts from the 12th century, we encounter various forms of the adverbs of place which developed from a Latin basis. The forms i, ci, ici from the Latin hic, the forms la, iluec and its other phonic forms from the Latin illac, illoc. When the long or short forms are used, semantic distinction does not take place. Adverbs express the spatial opposition proximity - distance. Unlike in Latin in the past, their form does not differentiate the state (here) and direction (hitherward). Compared with today's French, the short form ci is used as a conceptual adverb with the meaning of here. |
