Description The concept of early language teaching becomes a widely discussed topic (not only because of the Czech Republic joining the EU). Conflicting opinions emerge on its legitimacy and various research projects try to prove or disprove its fruitfulness. The nascent project "Jazyková propedeutika" serves as an alternative to early language teaching. The second part of the contribution reports about a research project conducted at the Department of English of the Faculty of Education MU, which attempted at finding relations between student applicants' early language learning and the results in language entrance exams.
