| Description | This report summarizes the pilot study for the dissertation on the approach of Czech teachers to teaching English word order. The research focuses on the crucial difference between free Czech word order (changing sentence emphasis) and fixed English word order (serving a grammatical function), with the Prague School defining two layers of word order: grammatical and semantic. The pilot study with one teacher aimed to refine the methodology, which included direct observation and a semi-structured interview. It was determined that audio recording is sufficient for analysis purposes. Preliminary results showed that the teacher acts as a facilitator, emphasizes ** student autonomy**, and prefers an inductive approach and project-based work. Comparison with the native language is used pragmatically and selectively, as the textbook plays a secondary role as a structural framework. |
