Description Nowadays, we perceive cimbalom music bands as an integral part of the manifestation of ethno-cultural traditions in Slovácko region. In the context of the social and cultural developments that have affected the development of the instrumental ensembles over the last hundred-ish years, it is appropriate to reflect on the transformation of the repertoire they present. We encounter folk songs from the Slovácko and other, even eastern regions, as well as artificial songs, popular songs, folk-like songs or even arrangements of film music. If we omit the discographies of music fusions (which are of course another perspective of the purists and innovators dichotomy), the repertoire is often determined by the occasion on which cimbalom music bands perform. Depending on the public demand and ambitions of the musicians, the repertoire can then be broadly divided into two standards: conceptual, which presents prepared sets of songs – perhaps even lesser-known ones – and consumerist, which relies on well-known songs. However, both standards are subject to the forementioned ambitions and a certain degree of purism that has always been associated with the folk culture. The paper is based on the author's long-term research efforts and is also part of his ongoing dissertation field research (Cimblom Music Bands in Slovácko region as an object of music-interpretive and socio-cultural research).
