Description In 2024, a specific research project was implemented focusing on risky behavior patterns in a sample of full-time students of Masaryk University. The research focused on identifying experiences with addictive substances and other types of addictive behavior, circumstances of first use, frequency and motivation for use, and availability of risky stimuli. Furthermore, opinions on preventive activities at the University were monitored. The research was designed as a quantitative descriptive anonymous questionnaire study with sample recruitment using the snowball method. 1,214 completed forms were obtained. Three-quarters of the sample were women, one-quarter were men. A third of the sample has experience with nicotine use, most often for the first time between the ages of 15 and 18, and more than 40 % reported daily consumption. 80 % of the sample has experience with alcoholic beverages, and their first use falls within the age range of 15–18. Half of the respondents drink alcohol several times a month, especially wine, cider, cocktails, and beer. 65 % of those surveyed drink coffee or energy drinks. 36 % of the sample have experience with illegal substances. These mostly involve marijuana or hashish, hallucinogens and dance drugs. 14 % of the sample have ever used prescription drugs without a specialist's recommendation. One fifth of the sample have used kratom and synthetic drugs at least once in their lives. 15 % of the sample spend more than 3 hours a day on the computer, 45 % on their mobile phone. Only about 6 % of the sample have encountered addiction prevention in a university environment, mainly as part of teaching or educational events organized by the University. The most common presentations of preventive activities included lectures with discussions, frontal lectures and discussions with an expert. Respondents would particularly like to see activities in which they themselves can participate, e.g. discussions with experts and former drug users, opportunities to visit treatment or prevention facilities focused on drug addiction, participation in professional projects, sports and artistic events.
