Description The article presents the outcomes of a doctoral project pilot study, which aims to confirm whether the research tools selected for the study of the development of pronunciation self-assessment in English studies in tertiary education support obtaining relevant and quality data which will contribute to responding to the research questions. During the pilot study, the research tools were adjusted, and the data gained disclosed the main weak point of the planned research, namely the need to focus more specifically on the skill of self-assessment rather than the language skill of pronunciation, which is the means of the self-assessment process.
