Description We invite you to a summer school where Gestalt therapy meets with applied improvisation. For a few years now, we (Bára and Tom) have been saying that improv significantly helps us in our therapeutic work. So, we dipped our toes into practice and research, and through the IVGT summer school and in collaboration with Ondra, we want to share this experience with you. We operate under the idea that every encounter with a client is a creative improvisation. Training in theatrical improvisation develops spontaneity, the skill of being with others, connecting, stepping into the unknown, enduring the birth of a figure, and letting oneself be carried away by a co-created situation. The experience in the therapeutic room is quite similar. Therefore, we offer you a four-day experimental playground where Gestalt therapists can meet with improv. We will explore the question of what experience I have as an improvising being and how I can use it as a therapist. The intention of the summer school is to reflect on the improvisational experience as an existential one, to examine it as a source for expanding, shifting, and refreshing individual therapeutic competencies, and strengthening the therapeutic stance. We invite you to the gym of creative adjustment, to explore contact, your own spontaneity, co-created dialogue, and experimentation. We won't be performing theater, but through its tools, we will perceive the aesthetics of contact, explore modulating our own presence, the art of taking a breath in the moment of encounter, and supporting the figure emerging from the co-created situation. At the same time, we will retain the playfulness, joy, creativity, and spontaneity of improv. We will offer a suitable amount of theoretical input and time for integration in addition to the improvisational (self)experience. The accompanying program will be designed to make the summer school both an educational event and a place for relaxation and building relationships. P.S.: The purpose of the summer school is definitely not to: produce new improvisers, assess or value talent, learn techniques for working with clients, learn to make jokes, or become a stand-up comedian. Experience with improv or drama is definitely not necessary.
