Description The paper casts some doubt on the existence of a tense morpheme in Czech finite verbs which, according to several recent analysis (Karlík, 2022; Starke/Cortiula/Taraldsen Medová, 2023), is located before the personal ending of the verb. The argument draws on the failure of classical structuralist tests to identify this (in terms of segmental material) “invisible” morpheme.
