Citation
Description The present article deals with the role of Language Mediation as a university course within the framework of the teacher training programme German as a Foreign Language. The aim of the article is to describe the concept of Language Mediation courses offered at the Department of German Language and Literature at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic and to summarize the results of qualitatively oriented evaluation research. The data were obtained using the focus group method and then evaluated by means of a thematic analysis. The results or the students' statements basically refer to four thematic areas: course content, competence and strategy development, methodology and organization and further suggestions. The study showed, among other things, that Language Mediation as a university course within the teacher training programme German as a Foreign Language plays an essential role from the students' perspective in the development of productive language skills, has a positive effect on their motivation and encourages them to use their first language and foreign language with a high level of language awareness. With her contribution, the author would like to show that for various reasons (considered in more detail in the article) it makes sense and is innovative to include Language Mediation in the university context and to develop its potential within the framework of courses that are both practical and methodologically and didactically oriented.
