Description In my contribution, I would like to primarily focus on words created by univerbization, i.e. by simplifying the original multi-word expression and existing simultaneously with it as its equivalent: obývák › obývací pokoj (living room), mikrovlnná trouba (microwave oven) › mikrovlnka (microwave) and on their use in Czech textbooks for foreigners for reference level A2 , B1 and B2. Expressions created by univerbization form an important part of the vocabulary used in everyday communication. The foreign students will learn that his acquaintance lives in a panelák(not in panelový dům; in English both are translated as a block of flats), he will go to the obývák (not to the obývací pokoj; in English both are translated as a living room. We will be interested in the universals in Czech textbooks for foreigners and the contexts of their use in comparison with the contexts of use of the corresponding phrases and their frequency. We will also try to find out if the equivalents of the idioms and phrases in Russian, English and German match, or if they differ.
