Description After the year 2000, theory and practice in Czech art education underwent major shifts in the paradigms relating to the concept of the creative child and the method of initiating and guiding the artistic expression of children and adolescents. Significant changes continue to take place across the Czech Republic with the expansion of digital technologies and the Internet. Traditional heteronomic methods of transferring knowledge and experience of art are being steadily replaced by newer more modern practices that support the autonomy of the student. In this chapter, I offer my perspective as an art educator on trends underway that are reshaping how children perceive receive and render art and I review ten domains of art education to highlight trends underway in the Czech education system including: children’s expression project-based methods sensory and spiritual education visual communications mediation of museum pedagogy art therapy intermedia new materiality participatory practices and community.
