Description If we see universities as innovation centres or hubs in learning society, then new knowledge from them should be distributed quickly because of fast ageing. The goal of applied our research is to find a way how to accelerate the transfer of knowledge about information literacy from university to high school using an online open mash-up environment. What are the needs of schools, teachers and pupils in information education? This paper came out of qualitative education needs analysis, based on q-methodology and interviews with 8 teachers from 5 schools and a pre-test with open questions for 95 students. We can see at several exciting phenomenons—first, a discrepancy between an evaluation of isolated knowledge and applied knowledge or competencies. Teachers commented on the low level of critical thinking and assessment of information among students, but at the same time, they assessed them highly in these skills. The students in the pre-test turned out well - more than three-quarters of the student can name some elements of a credible source of information or about safe behaviour on the internet. Second, there is a vicious circle where teachers see that it is crucial for students to develop autonomous learning and knowledge development competencies, but teachers do not trust in students. What is more, there is little possibility for students to build this autonomy in schools. According to the this test, students have an unfortunate habit of searching for information before they start to act (40), but 74 students reported a specific application or method of how they learn on their own using the internet. Based on data and AASL standards for the 21st-century learner, we created a pilot version of the course www.kisk.phil.muni.cz/onlife. It is an Information and autonomous learning topic that receives the most attention nowadays.
