Description There are certain parallels between children's artistic expression and the artistic expression of adolescents or adult authors with mental disabilities - in both groups it is a sincere, often naive reflection of the world, which often contains references to the basic values of life. Both groups of authors notice existential themes and motifs such as family, nature, love, animals, etc. The art works of both groups are mostly created as immediate responses of direct sensory experiences, are literally full of energy and have an "ideoplastic nature", which means that their authors and the authors choose clear and comprehensible symbols for communicating general human messages. However, the child as well as the person with a mental disability often also chooses mythological and fairy-tale themes, noticing archetypal themes and being close to rituals. These aspects of their work are at all times a guarantee of favor and support of their work by their loved ones and by the wider audience. H. S. B.
