Description The paper is reflecting the pre-service training on the tertiary level regarding the abilities thereof to enable students of pre-school education to fulfil their pre-school teachers’ roles. We base the text upon the current paradigm of education, pre-school teacher standards and legal requirements. We proposed the roles of the pre-school teacher (Syslová, 2017) from the so-called “profesiogram” of pre-school teachers (Burkovičová, 2012). These roles became the criteria for the standards analysis in the study programme for pre-school teachers at the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University. The findings confirmed that the standards for students of the above stated study programme corresponded with the required roles of the pre-school teacher. There is still the pending question of quality of the processes in developing professional skills and the verification thereof.
