Description The presented study brings into the professional discourse the theme of the initial education of pre-school teachers at the tertiary level by the graduates of this study after a year in practice. The aim of the study is to find out how graduates of the Faculty of education of Masaryk University are (not) prepared for the practice of a pre-school teacher, but also how kindergaten are ready for starting teachers and what support they provide. Through the audio recordings of the three focal groups, data was obtained which was further qualitatively analyzed in Atlas.ti. The results suggest that graduates are well prepared for individualized differentiated teaching, on the other hand, they experience weaknesses in communication and administrative skills. These on-the-job difficulties confirm further research findings among graduates at higher levels of education. The same is true of the lack of support for novices by kindergartens.
