Description Vlasta Štáflová (1907–1945) belonged to authors who endeavoured to give Czech readers an idea of Slovakia in the interwar period. Study drawing inspiration from original research applies mainly to the novel Závrať (1937). The author, using a detailed protagonist’s portrait, interprets the issue of an ideal of coexistence between human and nature that forms individuals positively in the spirit of ethical values. Study calls attention to motives of ruralism and interprets the text of novel.
