Description Concept map is often used as one of the diagnostic tools to identify misconception, especially in science subjects. It stimulates students to a deeper, more active and more critical viewpoint on the topic. It helps teachers to look for possible mistakes in relations between the conceptual structures. This paper deals with the identification misconceptions of oxygen by using conceptual maps. Pupils have a lot of wrong ideas about this element of periodic table. These ideas are often hidden. The concept map is a tool that helps teachers detects misconceptions and work with the ideas of pupils from different point of view. This is a pilot study of a qualitative research. The research was conducted at the 8th class pupils at four primary schools.
