| Description | The common feature of the three analysed pieces of prose – Václav Kahudas novel Houština (1999), Pavel Kolmačkas novel Stopy za obzor (2006) and Petr Hrbáčs novel Kosti, maso, tekutiny (2005) – is the concept of a novel as a self-reflection, as an attempt to capture the journey of ones self from childhood to adulthood. The main authors motif seems to be an inner need for self-reflection. Another commom trait is the feeling of ones own uniqueness, of being an outsider and feeling dissocialised. Although each author perceives the present moment differently, they all emphasise the importance of childhood. Childhood which is depicted as incomplete, gappy, and full of traces which only gain significance with time. The outcomes differ greatly: in Kahuda, it is the justification of his destiny of a loner, in Hrbáč, it is homosexuality, and in Kolmačka, it is being deeply rooted in traditional values for him represented by family and faith. |
