Citation
Description The article aims at comparing three most outstanding fictions from Czech history written for children in that time. They are namely: Za bílým půlkoněm by Vladimír Drnák, Pro čest a slávu by Jaroslav Janouch, and Tiší v zemi by Leontina Mašínová. All these books display both very high compositional standard and authors’ immense erudition. The books depict important historic events; „region“ plays an important role in all of three books. As in contemporary adult literature, patriotism, courage, love for one’s mother country and native heath are highlighted. Being influenced by the tradition of classic adventure novel, the idealized boy main characters are highly schematised – despite the fact that some of the authors, especially Leontina Mašínová, attempt at an insight into children’s psyche.
