| Description | The chapter brings an insight into the ways Josef Škvorecký used in naming characters of his novel Mirákl. Besides fictitious characters also historical characters appear in the novel. These characters are named either directly or through their function or using a caricature based on phonemic or semantic similarities. Some names of fictitious characters are carefully chosen to bring about associations with a real, wellknown character. If proper names do not allude to real characters, they are often used as a means of characterisation. This holds true especially about surnames. For this purpose Škvorecký intentionally choses unusual or even atypical surnames. |
