| Description | The chapter focuses on hearing impairment occurring in adulthood and old age. These are often connected to physiological ageing of hearing organs and health complications arising from old age. The majority of the chapter focuses on persons with post-lingual hearing impairment. We describe factors influencing correct functioning of hearing organ and consequently the impact of hearing impairment on a persons life in adulthood and old age. We also mention ways of communication of persons with hearing impairment and possible compensation of hearing impairment. Finally, we present a case study of a woman in productive age that experienced health problems resulting in deafness and tinnitus. |
