Description The chapter focuses on inclusion of persons with disabilities in the context of theoretical and legislative content of the term. Furthermore, it offers an overview of researches of „the world's largest minority“. Firstly, we define the terms social inclusion and exclusion with the meanings they carry in academic and political discourse. Consequently, we apply these terms on the situation of persons with disabilities. Further on, the chapter offers key moments in the development of the human rights point of view on persons with disabilities in international documents. Thus the reader can compare rights guaranteed in international treaties and recommendations with the situation in the Czech Republic (legislation, documents). This issue is closely connected with the development of the paradigm of disability. The chapter brings a chronological overview of models of disability, which significantly influence general attitudes towards disability and focus of measures applied in economical, social and educational areas. The concluding part of the chapter analyses attitudes of the majority society towards persons with disabilities as they significantly influence the self-perception of persons with disabilities.
