Description The research project analyses the rate of using alternative methods in teaching pupils with Down syndrome in primary schools. The project focused on the alternative methods aimed at developing cognitive functions, physical capability, and the alternative and augmentative communication methods. The research project analyses the current experiences and opinions of teachers from primary schools, practical schools, and special schools on the possibility to use learning methods developing or replacing insufficient communication skills and supporting the development of motor skills and cognitive abilities. Research was realised in 2013 through a questionnaire survey for 31 teachers and teaching assistants. The sample consisted of teachers working with a student diagnosed with Down syndrome in the Czech Republic.
