Description The aim of this chapter is to introduce cultural differences in some of the signigicant verbal and non-verbal signals that are common in the Czech, North American and Japanese culture. Based on research in verbal and non-verbal behavior of the members of the cultures, the chapter provides the reasons for the cultural differences in the use of direct and indirect style of communication; it further focuses on explanations of the cultural differences in affective displays, eye contact and the role of silence in conversation.
