Description The concept of relational power as conceptualised in the French and Raven s theory (1960), where it is divided into coercive, reward, legitimate, referent, and expert power bases, is in the Czech educational sciences a relatively new topic. The phenomenon of power was researched in the Czech Republic mainly qualitatively, by the means of interviews and observations (Šeďová, 2012, Šalamounová, 2011). Nevertheless, this phenomenon can be researched by the use questionnaires as well. One of the most current and most used questionnaires measuring the above mentioned power bases is Teacher Power Use Scale (Schrodt, Witt and Turman, 2007) suitable in the original version for upper secondary level students. Our contribution introduces the process of adaptation of this instrument to the Czech conditions and to lower secondary level pupils. The psychometrical properties of the adapted version of the questionnaire were discussed, as well as the possibilities of further instrument development and alternative options for measuring pupils´ and teachers´ perception of teacher s power. The Czech adaptation of the instrument can be used for measuring of single power bases in research settings as well as in the instructional practice or for (self)evaluation.
