Doc. PhDr. Jiří Havlíček

Jiří Havlíček was born in Brno. He educated at the Department of Art Education of the Faculty of Education Masaryk University in Brno. As an artist he works across the fields of painting, printmaking, photography, digital imagery and multimedia. His seminars and lectures on the subject - The Development of Art Culture - are aimed at artistic, historical, aesthetic, psychological, anthropological and philosophical issues of art development in Czech and Central European culture and subsequently in the cultures of the whole world. The main surveys not only touch relationships among particular cultures but also discuss spiritual sources for artistic creativity together with the study of lives and work of important artists from European and non-European cultures.

International Cooperation

His research interest includes a nineties project Multimedia into Education through Art, theory of Visual Communication in contemporary art and theory of Cyberspace. His project consists of many international workshops, conferences, seminars, exchange programmes and exhibitons of students and teachers from several European universities and art schools (Czech Republic, France, England, Portugal and Austria). He exhibits regularly in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Artwork / Umělecká tvorba

GRAPHICA ALCHYMICA Jiřího Havlíčka navazuje na alchymistickou a hermetickou tématiku ve výtvarném umění. Čerpá ze složitých představ slučujících Fluddovo rosikruciánství s Jungovými archetypy či Erasmovo moudré bláznovství s myšlenkami originálního českého filozofa Ladislava Klímy. Amalgam Havlíčkova OPUSU tvoří ruiny sci-fi, horroru, kybernetiky, patafyziky i trpkých reakcí na rozmanité filozofické a psychologické systémy. Vedle grafiky a černobílých kreseb vrací se umělec v posledních letech k práci s barvou. 

V duchu postmodernistické estetiky vytváří hybridní díla. Barbarsky spojuje klasický lept a akvatintu s iluminací, slepotiskem a knihařskými zásahy (zlacení, emaily). Kresbu tuší kombinuje s litografií a malbou. Kombinované techniky obměňuje v mnoha variantách. Jeho práce se vyznačují energickou kaligrafickou kresbou a provokujícím divokým koloritem. 

GRAPHICA COSMICA ET SCATOLOGICA či GRAPHICA ILLUMINATA není však pouhou postmodernistickou groteskou. Havlíčkova "individuální mytologie" má blízko k bizarnímu černému humoru, manýristické ironii i soudobé philosophy-fiction. 

Tvůrčí proces umělec chápe jako laboratorní činnost. S obdivuhodně bohatou invencí tvoří vize, jimiž reaguje na dávné pocity, úzkosti a strachy lidstva. Umělec se stává demiurgem - obnovitelem procesu přírodního tvoření. V jeho práci znovu ožívá klíčový problém renesanční přírodní filozofie: proměna hmoty jako výraz jejího obrození, proměna jedné věci v druhou. EXALTATIO MATERIAE PRIMAE je pro Havlíčka rozpouštěním katedrály symbolů, travestií a paradigmat. Lučavka královská se nazývá tvůrčí hereze v duchu českého filozofa Jana Patočky. Jiří Havlíček links his GRAPHICA ALCHYMICA to the alchemistic and hermetic themes in art. He combines the complicated images amalgamating Fludd's rosicrucianism with Jung's archetypes or Erasmus's wise foolishness with thoughts of original Czech philosopher Ladislav Klíma. The amalgam of Havlíček's OPUS is created by ruins of sci-fi, horror, cybernetics, pataphysics and the bitter reactions on various philosophic and psychologic systems. Beside graphic art and the black-and-white drawings the artist comes back to work with colours mainly recently. 

In the sense of postmodernistic aesthetics Havlíček creates the hybrid works of art. In a barbarous way he combines the classical etching and the aquatint with the illumination, the intaglio and the bookbinder's work (gilding, enamels). He combines the ink drawing with the lithographic print and the painting. He varies combinated techniques in many variations. His works are marked by a forceful calligraphic painting and a provocative wild local colour. 

GRAPHICA COSMICA ET SCATOLOGICA or GRAPHICA ILLUMINATA is not only the postmodernistic grotesque. Havlíček's "individual mythology" is close to the bizarre black humour, the irony of Mannerism and contemporary philosophy - fiction. 

The artist understands the creative process as a laboratory activity. With an admirably wide invention he creates the visions as the reactions on former feelings, anxiety and fear of mankind. The artist becomes a craftsman - an innovator of the process of nature creativity. In his work the key problem of the Renaissance natural philosophy returns again: the transformation of matter as an espression of one thing into another. EXALTATIO MATERIAE PRIMAE is for Havlíček melting of a cathedral of symbols, travesties and paradigms. The creative heresy in the genius of the Czech philosopher Jan Patočka is called aqua regia.
