| Description | The aim of the study is to analyze the communication strategies of social workers in low threshold facilities for children and youth, to evaluate their influence on the power balance and to describe the social reality of these facilities from the perspective of the workers. THEORETICAL BASE: The study draws on the social constructivist approach and discursive theory (Laclau, Mouffe, 2014). METHODS: The methodological framework is a discourse analysis using framing as a tool to explore the construction and interpretation of social worker-client relationships and the modi operandi approach (Thompson, 1990) to examine the symbolic construction of power and its distribution in the statements of social workers. In the research, we also applied content analysis of the Methodology in the NZDM. OUTCOMES: The results show that social workers in low threshold facilities for children and youth choose a participatory and horizontal approach to power, which allows clients to be actively involved in planning and decision-making. Power dynamics and their distribution influence the level of client support, participation and empowerment. SOCIAL WORK IMPLICATIONS: The findings of this study can contribute to the development of participatory methods in social work that promote a partnership relationship between worker and client and strengthen the client's role as an initiator of change. |
