Description The article examines and analyzes French proper names, which appear in the Czech periodical press of the 18th century in connection with reports of the Great French Revolution in 1789. The Publisher of the Czech National Revival Václav Matěj Kramerius tries to get as close as possible in his newspaper (Krameriusovy c.k. vlastenecké noviny) proper names to the contemporary Czech spelling system and thus simplify the reading of foreign proper names for Czech readers. He uses various orthography modifications, eg phonetic transcription in Czech letters, change or omission of French diacritics, use of Czech diacritics, change of letters‘ order, letters‘ omission.
