Description Continuous study of the bilateral relationship of the propria and communication has penetrated the onomastics as the reflection of language integration into the interest sphere of cybernetics, information theory and informatics. In spite of the fact that the interest in using propria in the onomastics dates back in the past it had never been considered as a separate line of research and investigation. – The relation of “communication – proprium” creates a specific category of “onymical object” that limits the classes of individual propria on one hand while inspiring the naming motives on the other one. “Proprium – communication” relationship offers space for common fundamental and - with regards to communication situations and circumstances – also some other proprial functions allowing for the provision of more specific information. This is executed through propria being a part of a communication process. During this process, the relation to the named object becomes stable, while the etymological meaning and transparency of the naming motives gets de-semantised. This way, the proprial meaning of the name comes to its existence. Onomastics will continue studying the origin and evolution of propria, contemporary onomastics (especially its theoretical segment), however, calls for the extension of research activities to cover the position, objectives and functions of propria in the communication.
