School Profile

The Primary and Nursery School Brno, Vedlejší 10, contributory organization, is a fully structured housing estate school providing education from 1st to 9th grade, with a capacity of 810 pupils and three classes in each grade. The school also includes a three-class nursery school with a capacity of 75 children, an after-school program with 7 groups and a capacity of 210 pupils, and a school canteen with a capacity of 900 people.

School offer

We follow the “School Educational Program for Primary Education: From Vedlejší Street into the Mainstream of Life,” valid from September 1, 2023. The school offers:

• In grades 1–3, pupils choose from optional subjects: dance and movement education, movement games, and creative activities
• English is taught from 1st grade; from 4th grade, pupils study ICT, and pupils in 2nd grade attend swimming lessons
• From 6th grade, pupils learn a second foreign language
• In 9th grade, pupils choose from optional subjects: English conversation, dance and movement education, financial literacy, or science practicum
• Pupils in lower primary go to summer and winter outdoor schools and a skiing course
• Pupils in 6th grade go on adaptation stays and attend ice-skating lessons
• In 7th grade, pupils take part in a skiing course
• In 8th and 9th grade, pupils can take part in a short study stay in England, a sports course in Croatia, educational trips to various European countries, or a sports course in Křižanov
• Our pupils often place highly in both sports and academic competitions at city and regional levels
• For 9th-grade pupils, we organize a Social Evening, where they prepare and perform the polonaise dance and additional program
• Our school has a counseling center with a school psychologist, special education teachers, and guidance counselors, and we provide individual support for pupils with special educational needs
• The school and partner organizations offer a wide range of extracurricular clubs, such as sports, music, drama, ceramics, preparation for secondary school entrance exams, and Cambridge exam preparation

We follow the educational programme “From Side Street and Main Street into the Whole World”, the preschool offers:

• the school focuses on the holistic development of the child's personality
• Integrated blocks of the school educational programme: I know who I am and where I belong, I take care of my health, I am not alone in the world, I discover the world, I create my world and the world around me

The school is involved in several projects: the NIDV project Inclusion in Practice, the Ministry of Education project Prevention of School Failure in Primary Schools in the City of Brno, and the project Templates 2023 at the Primary and Preschool Brno Vedlejší 10 as part of the EU operational programme Jan Amos Komenský, the IROP Project, Nenech to být, Participatory Project, Open Schools, ERASMUS+.
