Opening of the (Post)doctoral school
On February 11, 2021, the Pedagogical Faculty of Masaryk University opened the (Post)doctoral school. The (Post)doctoral school is a platform including activities to support early-stage researchers in becoming a professional researcher and a member of an academic community.
The event was intended primarily for doctoral students and their supervisors, postdocs, the Ph.D. study boards at the Faculty of Education MU, and everyone interested in the (Post)doctoral school activities. The event consisted of two blocks.
In the first block, Vice Dean Tomáš Janík presented how doctoral schools' concept is conceived in the European and Czech context. Jana Veličková, the (Post)doctoral school coordinator, introduced the (Post)doctoral school's concept and the range of available activities during the year. Those include methodological workshops, lectures, faculty-wide conferences for doctoral students, and Ph.D. Day (an informative event about doctoral study programs, publishing courses, and more).
All necessary information is available on the new website www.ped.muni.cz/postdokskola and on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/postdokskola.
The second part of the event included a panel discussion on doctoral studies' topics and possible support, e. g. through doctoral schools. An international expert on the topic was invited for the debate - prof. Kosová (Faculty of Education, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica), other keynote speakers were prof. Stuchlíková (Faculty of Education, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice), Dr. Kostlánová (CEITEC, Masaryk University Brno) and prof. Janík (Faculty of Education, Masaryk University Brno).
At the beginning of the discussion, the panelists explained the challenges and issues that young researchers face and possible institutional support forms to help young researchers cope with these challenges. The panelists then presented how their home institutions approached doctoral students' development activities and exchanged their own experiences with doctoral schools' establishment and operation. The topic of inter-and transdisciplinarity in doctoral studies was addressed in a broader discussion. Doctoral schools were also named one of the instruments for developing inter-and transdisciplinary cooperation.
