The Institute's main mission is to carry out (interdisciplinary) research in education while the focus lies on three thematic areas:
Research on (the development of) curriculum i.e., answering general questions concerning the aims and contents of education. We focus on the processes of developing, implementing, realising and evaluating curricular documents and text books.
Research on teaching and learning i.e., generating findings concerning the processes that take place in the classrooms.
Research on teacher professionalisation i.e., bringing understanding of the processes through which teacher-novices become teacher-experts.
These three thematic areas are investigated with respect to their field-didactic contexts, e.g., from the perspectives of (a) language education, (b) mathematics and natural sciences education, (c) social sciences education and (d) aesthetics education.
